Golden Wall. Paradise. Sequence of Presence.

performance
artist book in progress
Performances were executed in realm of Performa&Platforma festival GT22 Maribor and Out of Frame exhibition at Studio UGM, Maribor

Searching for the river, I come across a wall. I measure it out with painful steps.

The performative piece delves into the phenomenon of the wall (the intimate aspect of the phenomenon is brought out by the performance situation of two persons sitting and facing one another, a situation that socially represents the entry point in the representation of concrete reality). The visual material includes fragments from field recordings taken on the author’s month-long hike down the Wienfluss River in Vienna, where she stopped every few steps to take a snapshot of the wall. The walking is now continued by the movement of arms and hands, the silence continues. The past is passed on into the present by fingers coated in gold.

Petra Kapš (alias OR poiesis) weaves her work between sound and radio art, timespace poetry, performance, books, and reflection. Immersed into the ethereal nature of sound, her focus is nevertheless always on the concrete presence of the body. Petra Kapš explores the aural aspects of contemporary society, the silence of an individual, and time in an asynchronous digital reality. She is currently exploring the notion of paradise.

FLUXOR BETON#2

Fluxor Beton by OR poiesis, 8-channel soundpiece, Tonšpur Ambasada - Pasaža Glavni trg-Rotovž, Maribor
International Festival of Computer Arts/MFRU 2017
10. - 17. 10. 2017
In collaboration with GT22 / Tonspur / Kapelica Gallery / Sonoretum

The aural piece of chrono-space sound poetry is a digital trace of the performative field practice of OR poiesis; it is sonography in concrete space, an hommage to the lost time as we knew it before digitalisation. This collection of acoustic haikus is primarily driven by the flow of water, steps in motion and words that listen to the lingering breath. Steps echo throughout space, rhythm echoes mood, speech tangles with the whistling of the wind, words hang and float in the air.

Fluxor beton is based on concrete and the seasons of the year. The author explores the acoustic qualities of motion and space. Steps become instruments for sounding the environment, recording suchness of things, mood and rhythm. The written word was once the model for speaking silence, but in these times, digital instruments for recording, storing and playing back sounds are the tools that produce deaf silence of the speaker.
